BRAVE GIRL: THE DEVOTIONAL #2
by Anna Lind Thomas
“… Who knows? Maybe you were made queen for such a time as this.”
Queen Esther was tasked with a terrifying proposition: Do nothing, and the Jews will be massacred. Or, approach the king uninvited to beg for their lives - and face her own execution.
I mean, I’m afraid to approach my waiter to let them know there’s a problem with my order, so … wowza.
Her uncle, Mordecai, warns her that if she persists in being silent, God will deliver his people with our without her, but as a Jew herself, she may not be left unscathed.
“But who knows?” he says. “Maybe you were made queen for such a time as this.”
Perhaps, but that didn’t make the situation any less terrifying. She was so afraid, she asked for all the Jews to fast with her for 3 days to help her gather her courage.
And then she said, “I’ll go to the king, even though it’s forbidden. If I die, I die.”
Being a Brave Girl doesn’t mean you won’t ever be afraid, it means being obedient to God’s call for your life right in the face of it.
When we face difficult challenges, it’s easy to persist in silence as Esther did, or wallow in self-pity. But what if God put us in this position, at this time, under these circumstances - for a divine purpose?
What if there is purpose in this pain, a lesson in this trial? Instead of making excuses as to why it’s impossible, what if you were meant to face it and then claim your victory?
Very few of us will ever be called to make a decision that puts our lives at risk. But we may risk our job, our reputation, our dream, our finances or our time. We may risk embarrassment, rejection or our security.
A Brave Girl may be afraid to step into her destiny. But that’s not the end of her story.
Like Esther, she’ll cling to God to gain wisdom and courage. Then, she’ll take a deep breath and take her first step into His vision for her life.
And who knows? Perhaps she was made for such a time as this.
I’m willing to bet you are.
SHE IS BRAVE BECAUSE GOD IS WITH HER!
